Mya Royal is an artist and entrepreneur working in the high fashion arena out of her waterfront design studio in historic Plymouth, Massachusetts - “America’s Hometown.” Royal has operated her own independent fashion business since 2009 when she first registered her studio in Boston, later moving operations to Italy for several years, and finally returning to the New World. The studio logo is an image of a young woman riding a dolphin. It was inspired by the artist's ancestral family crest, which was itself inspired by Ancient Greek and Roman mythology.
Mya is a traditionally trained fine artist. As an undergraduate student she sold her first large scale permanent public art installation to her own university in Boston for about the cost of one year’s tuition. Royal went on to complete a master’s program in fashion design in Florence, Italy. She has interned for some of the most famous fashion houses in the world, has been privileged to work in the best collaborative art studios of Tuscany and New England, and has been awarded internationally for her work and volunteer efforts.
Royal's work has historically been fine art printmaking, painting, and made-to-order formalwear including wedding attire and daywear like bespoke suits and gowns. Leather goods like jackets and handbags have also been among her favorite design commissions, and theater costumes among the noteworthy. These experiences have informed her larger aesthetic. So, when Royal decided to launch her own line of ready-to-wear fashion and items for the home, she seamlessly integrated her own original artworks with comfortable wearable classic styles for the entire family. And, that is what you see here.
